Sharon is a Board-Certified Safety Professional (CRSP), a licensed HeartMath® Trainer and a former police officer. She is passionate about her mission and is energized by inspiring people to make positive changes in their lives and in the lives of those around them.
With over a decade of working in safety, her success in creating effective safety cultures, (that go from being high-risk blacklisted performers to low-risk top performers) lies in her ability to empower others, and influence decision makers by helping them connect their heads with their hearts.
Experiences in high-risk situations as a safety professional, and a police officer, prompted Sharon to explore how decision-making skills play a role in resilience. What stood out for Sharon when investigating incidents in the roles above, was that decision’s about how we choose to take care of ourselves, and others seemed to have the greatest influence on preventing unwanted events. Her exploration of decision making led her to the science behind stress and how our ability to self-regulate (manage our stress response) plays a major role in our decision-making abilities. As it turns out, research in neurocardiology provides a rational explanation of the benefits of utilizing the heart-brain connection to improve performance in safety. For Sharon this was a huge “ah-ha” moment who now focuses on sharing the science and performance benefits of self-regulation to improve leadership performance, well-being, and organizational effectiveness.
